Testing brake pads – compressibility and shear testing
Use of a GALDABINI universal testing machine with different testing tools and measuring probes
Testing the compressibility of brake pads ISO 6310
Since the deformation path is very small, measurements are taken directly on the sample using high-resolution measuring probes. An electrical average is calculated from a total of 3 measuring probes (arranged at 120° to each other). The resolution of the measuring signal is 0.1 µm (0,000.1 mm).
The test sequence can be freely defined. For example, it is possible to carry out 2 setting cycles first and only determine the setting behavior in the 3rd cycle. Thanks to the integrated heating plate, the tests can be carried out at room temperature as well as at 400° C. In the standard version, this equipment is ideally suited for a universal testing machine 50 or 100 kN. However, if required, this can also be designed for more powerful machines.
The ISO 6310 standard sets out some requirements for the calibration of force and deformation:
This can only be carried out with an HBM (Hottinger Baldwin Messtechnik) load cell for which the deformation path is known. Therefore, a standard calibration is carried out by SCHÜTZ+LICHT Prüftechnik in accordance with ISO 7500-1 and ISO 9513. In addition, a calibration must be carried out with the above-mentioned load cell. The customer can provide this load cell or an additional load cell can be ordered. Purchasing your own load cell is particularly useful so that you can carry out the test independently.
