USB microscope for measuring impact samples for pendulum impact testers
Simple tolerance check of notch angle, notch depth, notch radius according to ISO 148 + ASTM E 23
USB microscope for measuring distances, angles, radii, etc.
In industry, this USB microscope can be used for a variety of tasks, such as checking the dimensional accuracy of impact bending specimens.
Calibration can be carried out at 50x and 200x magnification. A wide range of measuring tasks can be carried out using the software provided. At the magnifications mentioned above, the USB magnifying glass is placed on the test piece / sample surface. The fixed working distance to the sample surface means that magnification errors are impossible, as focusing is only possible at 50x or 200x. If larger fields of view are to be recorded, the USB microscope can be placed in a tripod. The height drive can be used to set a different working distance and thus a lower magnification or a larger field of view. This working distance results in a different focal plane. These different working distances are for visual representation only and cannot be calibrated. If a spacer is used, a larger working distance can also be calibrated.
For additional focus levels, you can get an acrylic glass tube Ø 25 mm / wall thickness 4 mm (approx. € 15,00) and make your own spacers. This transparent spacer is placed on the sample and the larger distance (larger field of view) is measured. Note: For additional spacers, we strongly recommend purchasing a tripod!
As an application example, we explain an application from testing technology below: Measurement of impact bending specimens:
USB microscope for optical measurement tasks – e.g.
- Notch impact tests: notch depth, notch radius, notch angle
- Geometry of tools, stamped parts, components
- Measurement angle, distance, diameter, radius
- and replacement for expensive profile projectors
Affordable and easy to use
- Magnification 20 – 50 x and 200x (fixed 50x + 200x)
- integrated LED lighting
- can be connected to any PC via USB
- Alternative to expensive microscopy (macro/micro)
Optical measurement at the click of a mouse
We reconsidered the conventional measuring method (using a profile projector) and looked for an alternative solution. For a fraction of the previous cost, a measuring device for optical measurement can now be offered at the click of a mouse. The USB microscope and the associated software enable software-supported measurement of the sample dimensions (notch depth, notch angle, notch radius, height at the notch base). The images and results are saved in an image archive and contain all measurement lines, angles, radii, comments, auxiliary lines, etc. generated at the click of a mouse. It is also possible to send the measurement values to an Excel file or to save the images including measurement lines (BMP, JPG).
- Measurement of the notch radius (target: radius 0.25mm + / – 0.075mm)
- notch angle (target: 45° + / – 2°)
- notch base (target: 8,0 + / – 0,075 mm)
Application example: Sample measurement of impact bending specimens
Tests according to DIN EN ISO 148-1 or ASTM E23
These results can be measured with the system (green fields). The entire measuring system (including PC) costs only 5% of a profile projector.
