Quality at a reasonable price: The new machine concept using steel construction makes this Hardness Tester approximately 100% stiffer than comparable machines with a cast body. The new concept also made it possible to significantly reduce the number of components. This lowers production costs and enables European quality at a previously unknown quality-price ratio. A completely new feature in this price class is that the test force is applied by a servomotor and load cell in a closed control loop (except for type 200AR: weight loading system).

FENIX 200 operation
Hardness tester “FENIX 200AR” Depending on the desired Rockwell scale, the desired load level is set on the hardness tester using the force selection lever on the right-hand side. In addition, the diamond cone indenter (Rockwell C and Rockwell A) may need to be replaced with a Rockwell ball (e.g. Rockwell B – 1/16″ diameter). As is usual with this type of hardness tester, the test piece is placed on the support table and lifted using the handwheel. As soon as the workpiece touches the indenter (depending on the setting, the spring force of the clamping cap must be overcome), the dial gauge pointer moves. After this has completed approximately 2 revolutions, the second, small indicator needle is also at a point (preload reached). Now the starting position (ZERO) is set on the dial gauge using this preload by turning the scale under the stationary pointer (adjustment wheel below the housing). With the manual type 200 AR, the loading lever on the right-hand side is now operated. In this way, the loading weights are slowly lowered onto the loading mechanism, slowed down by oil damping, and transfer the test force to the indenter using the lever arm mechanism. After the loading period of 10 seconds has elapsed, the operator returns the lever to its starting position. The result of the Rockwell measurement is immediately available on the dial indicator. The scale division is 0,5 Rockwell units. According to the standard, the resolution is 0,1 Rockwell units.
Hardness tester "FENIX 200ACL" If the correct indenter is already inserted (if different from the desired method), the hardness scale can be selected using the electrical buttons until it is shown on the electronic display. With this device, the test sequence starts by pressing the START button: The motor cycle begins and the test force is applied with high precision using the servomotor and force cell in a closed control loop. This ensures that the test force to be applied is not exceeded - the control algorithm slows down the load ramp shortly before the target force is reached and increases the force slowly. The indenter penetrates the material depending on the material resistance (material hardness). After the holding time has elapsed (electronic countdown - adjustable), the servomotor relieves the test force mechanism to the pre-force. As with the manual type, the result is immediately available on the easy-to-read analog clock.
It often does not have to be a hardness tester that covers all test scales: Choose according to requirement + budget
A hardness tester, which performs hardness testing according to several metal-Hardness testing method (Vickers, Brinell and Rockwell) is relatively expensive. A cheaper alternative is to have equipment for just one test method (a FENIX hardness tester covers at least 3 or more Rockwell scales: e.g. HRC, HRB, HRA). The elimination of an optical measuring device (for Vickers and/or Brinell) results in a significant cost advantage. In addition to simplifying operation, there is also the advantage that the holding time is correctly adhered to.
