Grinding machines & milling machines for sample preparation of spectral analysis & X-ray analysis

Increasingly precise devices of spectral analysis OES and  X-ray analysis XRF require ever better sample surfaces! The required sample quality (the basis for accurate results) can be achieved with METKON Grinding machines for sandpaper / pot stones and milling machines can be achieved easily and efficiently.

The limits of what is possible are constantly shifting. The ever-increasing resolution of hardware and software is forcing ever-improving quality of sample preparation. Contaminants must be completely removed and the sample must be flat so that the argon gas remains safely enclosed and air ingress is avoided. The results of a spectral analysis / X-ray analysis can only be as precise as the quality of the test object allows.

METKON offers manual and automatic machines for the preparation of massive samples - from small table grinding machines to automatic milling machines. With METKON sample preparation machines you are well equipped to obtain highly accurate analysis results.

SPECTRAL 250

Table grinding machine for steel and metal samples

The SPECTRAL 250 is a table grinding machine for steel and metal samples for spectral analysis. Its compact design and vibration-free operation make it a practical, popular device. Its low noise level and integrated dust extraction using a vacuum system and connection nozzles for optional dust extraction increase comfort.

The 250 mm grinding wheel is dynamically balanced and runs smoothly. The sandpaper is sucked onto the grinding disc by a vacuum system and therefore does not require gluing and is easy to replace. In order to achieve the required surface quality of the spectral analysis samples, various sandpapers with a grain of 40 - 120 can be used. The device is equipped with an electronic brake and brings the grinding wheel to a stop within seconds after it is switched off. An emergency stop function guarantees an immediate stop when the cover is opened.

SPECTRAL 350

Stand grinders with 1 or 2 grinding wheels

The SPECTRAL 350 is equipped with one (350-1) or two (350-2) grinding wheels. It can be used to grind steel or metal samples for spectral analysis so that they are absolutely flat and free of residues that could affect the results of the spectral analysis or X-ray analysis. The robust and vibration-free construction is designed for continuous operation. It has two separately driven grinding wheels that are dynamically balanced and thus ensure smooth running. The speeds of the grinding wheels can be set separately to 1.400 / 2.800 rpm. Rough and / or fine grinding can be carried out independently and in parallel on both grinding wheels. A special vacuum system ensures that the sandpaper is sucked onto the grinding wheel - gluing is not necessary. This suction system can be supplied in an additional reinforced version, thus increasing the suction power of the vacuum even further. This means that the sandpaper is held securely even under the most difficult conditions and no gluing or clamping is required. The sandpaper can be used (consumed) over the entire surface and changing the sandpaper can be done very easily.

A powerful, optional extraction system with easy-to-change filters ensures that the machine does not release dust into the environment. Both grinding wheels are covered on one side with a cover that allows the samples to be ground only within the recess. This increases operating comfort and user safety in equal measure. Magnetic or clamp sample holders are optionally available for maximum operator safety. The grinding machine is equipped with a braking system for stopping the grinding wheels immediately. In addition, an electrical lock is integrated that only allows the lid to be opened when the grinding wheels have come to a standstill.

SPECTRAL PG52

pot stone pendulum grinding machine

delivery by pendulum movement

The SPECTRAL PG52 is a compact pendulum grinding machine for the efficient grinding of hard and medium-hard iron or steel samples for sample preparation for spectral analysis and X-ray analysis. This table machine has a simple, reliable design and is extremely easy to operate. The work area is completely protected by an enclosure. This increases work safety, reduces noise and effectively keeps grinding dust at bay. To ensure good observation of the grinding process, the work area is illuminated with two LED lamps. The large front cover can be opened completely and offers free access to all areas.

The sample grinding machine SPECTRAL PG52 is suitable for wet and dry grinding and requires little maintenance: cleaning the interior. There is a connection on the back for connecting a standard extraction system. A solid cup grinding stone is used as an abrasive, with which even the hardest materials can be ground in a short time so that they are suitable for reliable results in spectral or X-ray analysis. Cooling (fresh water and waste water connection required) or alternatively a circulation cooling system with a tank and circulation system (with rust protection agent) can be connected as an option.

The vertical feed (Z-axis) is carried out using a hand crank. The reproducibility of the high-quality sample surfaces is ensured by the drive unit being mounted using high-quality tapered roller bearings. Mechanical, pneumatic or electromagnetic clamp sample holders are optionally available.

The grinding process / the swiveling in of the grinding head with the grinding stone is carried out by means of a hand lever on the front through a pendulum movement. The machine is equipped with a braking system for the immediate stopping of the grinding stone. To protect the operator, an electrical lock is installed which only allows the front cover to be opened when the grinding stone has come to a standstill.

SPECTRAL MM102

table milling machine for non-ferrous metals and steel

for soft, medium-hard and hard metals

The SPECTRAL MM is an automatic milling machine for processing steel samples and non-ferrous metals for optical emission spectroscopy / spectral analysis OES and X-ray analysis XRF. Since the fine milling is carried out automatically, reproducible sample quality at the highest level is guaranteed. The very solid and solid machine frame is a robust construction with only low noise levels. It has a completely closed housing (personal protection) which is equipped with bright LED lighting. The work area for sample loading is easily accessible through sliding doors that open wide to the side. With the SPECTRAL MM, the sample is fed in by the T-slot table, on which the sample is clamped using a 3-jaw chuck, moving under the milling head. The travel speed of this moving table and all other milling parameters (start position, end point, height adjustment, milling head speed) are easily entered into the SIEMENS PLC control using the touchscreen control panel and then saved. In order to achieve a perfect surface on different materials, the speed and feed rate of the milling head can be individually adjusted. The vertical movement of the milling head (Z-axis) is carried out by an electric motor and is digitally displayed with high resolution on the LCD touchscreen monitor. The SPECTRAL MM can be used to machine a wide variety of sample shapes with a diameter of up to 80 mm. If required, the milling head can be equipped with special cutting plates made of diamond or tungsten carbide. A 3-jaw chuck is included as standard. Other clamping devices are available as an option.
