Why tensile tests made of sheet metal?
procurement of inexpensive tensile samples
As a specialist in the preparation of tensile tests on sheet metal, we regularly receive requests for cost-effective tensile tests for schools and training.
When purchasing one Tensile testing machine Due to limited budgets, the cheapest equipment option is often chosen. This is usually the clamping device for thread samples form B. Unfortunately, round samples are about 3 to 4 times more expensive to produce due to the more complex production on a lathe.
Tensile specimens made of sheet metal are punched in a matter of seconds and then ground in the package.
To produce threaded tensile specimens, however, bar stock must first be cut to length and then machined on a lathe, which is much more time-consuming and therefore more costly.
Depending on the number of tensile specimens required, it is cheaper in the long run to purchase inexpensive wedge specimen holders (25kN - a pair from approx. €1.500,00 plus VAT) for flat specimens in order to be able to use the cheaper flat specimens. We offer inexpensive tensile specimens for training purposes. If you need these for training, we will - on request - procure appropriate sheet metal qualities and produce specimens. When delivered, the specimens are punched and ground and correspond to the required quality according to ISO 6892-1 or DIN 50125.

Equipment for schools, vocational schools, universities
For the above-mentioned tensile specimens (flat tensile specimens thickness a0 and threaded head samples Ø 6mm) a Quasar 25 (25kN) is ideal. This meets the force requirements (min.), is supplied with excellent LabTest testing software, is modular (expandable) and offers the best price-performance ratio on the market. For didactics we recommend the following (cheapest) equipment:
- Quasar 25 with testing software LabTest
- THS527-20 wedge screw terminals with flat jaws and centering aids
and / or - Threaded head holders and threaded head inserts M10
- MF2 clamp-on extensometer
- Optional flat sample marking device for dividing / marking the samples for manual measurement of the elongation at break
Demarcation / Notes
Material properties are specified for the tensile specimens offered below. These are the permissible fluctuation ranges of the metal types according to the material standards. We cannot determine in advance in which range the mechanical material properties of the respective batch lie. For orders of 100 pieces or more per type, we can carry out a preliminary test (3 tensile tests) for this batch on request and include a test certificate with the delivery.
The tensile specimens offered are NOT certified reference material / CRM specimens. We cannot certify or guarantee the exact results of the specimens (material properties). Our company is accredited according to ISO 17015 for the calibration of materials testing machines. We are NOT accredited to carry out tensile tests according to ISO 17025.
Unfortunately, we can only offer and supply the tensile specimens listed on this page. Tensile specimens made of other materials (PlasticUnfortunately, we are unable to offer samples made of other materials (e.g. aluminum, paper, foils, etc.) or other metals (titanium, special steels, etc.) or with other geometries, as we are not technically equipped for these materials or sheet thicknesses or geometries. We are also limited to the sheet thicknesses or geometries mentioned for metal tensile tests. We therefore ask that you refrain from enquiries regarding other materials, grades and geometries.
